Perhaps you’re already familiar with Library Listens, you may have seen digital posters around the library or heard about it on social media. However, if for some reason, you don’t know anything about it, take this as your opportunity to get to know!

We have been working hard behind the scenes to compile the ultimate soundtracks for your study sessions. As we value the opinions of our fellow students, we’ve been letting you vote on what genres fit the different areas. Thus, ‘Lofi for when you’re struggling to find a seat in the AGLC’ was born. Democracy also gave us ‘Dark Academia’ for the Purple zone in the Main Library, and Ambient for the Blue zone.

We want to bring you playlists for students, made by students. So in the spirit of collaboration, we welcome (and encourage) students to make song suggestions, and new playlist recommendations, and to give us any feedback you may have! You can find the form here, it is checked frequently so keep an eye out to see whether any of your ideas come to fruition!

“Library Listens was an idea centred around the aim to increase belonging and for students to actually engage with the library and have some fun music to listen to, especially because a lot of students haven’t seen all the different parts of the library”. — Durian, member of the student team responsible for the idea.

From calming classics to focused beats, we’ve got you covered. We have many more playlists in the works to cover all other areas in the library and have plans to collaborate with different societies to create subject-specific soundtracks for your studies. For example, check out The Official Mathsoc’s playlist here. If you’re interested in teaming up with us on this, please email Durian at divya.malhotra@student.manchester.ac.uk
